Description

This book provides a concise account of the preliminary methods and general principles which form the basis of pharmacological experimentation. Attempts have been to describe experiments which can be performed without sophisticated instruments. The coverage is not only limited to drug-receptor interactions, drugs acting on autonomic and cardiovascular system but also to central nervous system, diuretics, antihistamines and gastric acid secretion studies. In the light of importance of bioassay of drugs in pharmaceutical science and industry, a separate chapter has been given on this topic.
In 1998, schedule `Y’ was introduced by the Drug Control Administration of India, which makes it compulsory to carry out animal toxicity and pharmacokinetics for every new drug to be marketed. A glimpse of such experiments is also given is this book.
Many a times authorities while framing the syllabus find it difficult to give exact list of practicals and often write vague topics in the syllabus for practicals. A list of more than 60 experiments has been given to make it for teachers to design course planning.
We are sure this book will be useful to the students of pharmacy but it is also expected to revitalize the curriculum of experimental pharmacology in Medical and Veterinery Colleges.
