Pharmacognosy

This has been the first Indian book in pharmacy curriculum published in 1973 by the renowned professor Dr C. S. Shah. The current Sixteenth edition has been extensively enlarged and subjected to thorough revision while keeping the basic organization of the book largely unchanged. Almost all chapters and information on drugs have been updated and in some cases comprehensively rewritten. In addition to revision in the text, there have been extensive changes in the illustrative material as well. Thus, through the addition of some new chapters and the revision done, an effort has been made to make the book fully useful for both the diploma and degree students.

We understand that the PCI has since started giving a serious thought to the contemplated changeover of the course and has even finalized a degree course curriculum in the form of its Education Regulations.

Keeping this coming syllabus in mind, a chapter has been introduced topics on Pharmaceutical Botany as well as help others to deepen their knowledge in certain important aspects of Botany to enable them to study some important drugs in their powdered form. Likewise, the portion on phytochemistry of active principles in general and of those present in the individual drugs, in particular, has been further strengthened.
