Introduction of Education Regulation-91 (ER-91) has been an ambitious step to change the orientation of the profession of pharmacy from “Economic” to “Service” and from “Industry” to “Hospital” base. A pharmacist, as it in the advanced countries like USA, is now expected to advice the patient about dosage, indications etc. and has to be an inseparable, integral part of the health team. Subjects like clinical pathology and biochemistry thus become vital.
Biochemistry as such is a subject linking chemistry and biology with medicine and pharmacy. It has provided a major break through in the development of drugs. Biochemical analysis of blood and urine for various physiological substances proves to be of diagnostic value for various diseases. Thus, the pharmacist, a link between physician and patient engaged in development of drugs is incomplete without knowledge of biochemistry. The practicals mentioned in this book have been selected carefully to provide the basic need for understanding diseases by pharmacy, medical and paramedical students. Significance of each practical or estimation has been discussed at the end of each experiment.
